Jewelry

...in a world full of wearable art that is heavy with cheap materials but light in originality...

The Crow's Nest's jewelry stands out for its quality, craftsmanship, and innovative designs.

Crow's Nest owner and long-time jewelry designer, Brandi Chalker, creates unique and fluid jewelry pieces utilizing sterling silver and copper, leather, semi-precious stones, and shells. Most pieces are one-of-a-kind, and many incorporate found objects, such as shells plucked from the sands of beaches around the world. Custom orders are welcome.

Hats

The Crow's Nest introduced a line of hand-crocheted novelty hats in the winter of 2009. While we love to see beanies and earflap hats on so many heads around the Bay Area... well, we just got bored. So we began to imagine hats with animal ears... and then animal faces... and then monster googly eyes... and what do you know? People loved them!

Each hat we make is unique, although many can be replicated or made in a different size. Custom orders are a lot of fun to make, too! Check out our available selection, or request your own design. Ooh, and did I forget to mention that our hats are made almost entirely from recycled yarn? So you can keep warm and feel good about helping out the planet, all at the same time.

To give you an idea, recent animal hats have included:

  • Goat
  • Giraffe
  • Hippo
  • Frog
  • Monkey
  • Beaver

Fair Trade

Although not currently available for sale on the internet, The Crow's Nest offers a great selection of imported Fair Trade handicrafts. These include everything from tree-free paper and cruelty-free leather journals from India, to wood and bone salad utensils from Africa, to colorful scarves from Nepal. These high-quality items are sourced from Fair Trade cooperatives and individual artisans in developing countries, who are guaranteed fair wages and good working conditions (among many other positive benefits). Many of the products are created with environmentally friendly materials and practices. All are handcrafted with love and care, and represent a true partnership between artisans of the world and the people who appreciate their work.

If you're interested in buying Fair Trade merchandise, please send me an email with a description of what you're looking for and I'll let you know if I carry it.
